Introduction

The first Community Land Trust in Essex and the first affordable housing project in partnership with English Rural and Homes England. Working with our friends at Thaxted Parish Council, the District Council, and Thaxted’s Charities, we have grown from a scrap of land to holding affordable homes for the community in perpetuity.

THE IDEA

But to make this a reality, there’s work to be done. Planning, design, building partners, and a great deal of
regulatory hurdles to get through.

By November 2020, THE THAXTED COMMUNITY LAND TRUST had been formed and registered with the FCA.

Just 4 full years later, spades went into the ground, and we asked who needed a new home in Thaxted.

Outreach and engagement bore fruit, and the list of interested folk with a Thaxted connection grew while the plans did also.

HARD WORK

Building a home is a complex business.

Though Brickhill kept on schedule a sustainable and compliant home today consists of many parts from solar panels to sound, daft, and heat proof doors and windows, as well as fire safe construction and insulation.

We are committed to carbon neutral homes with a minimum footprint, with outdoor space and car parking.

The Hedges has an Orchard as part of its contribution to bio-diversity.

 FINISHING TOUCHES

Now in March 2026 someone will make these new homes there forever home.
